FISHING TRIP ENDS IN TRAGEDY, ONE MISSING AFTER BOAT CAPSIZES

MACHANG: A fishing trip by three friends ended in tragedy when one of them went missing after the boat they were in capsized at Haji Pa jetty near Paloh Rawa here last night.

District police chief Superintendent Mohd Haki Abdullah said the missing person was identified as Hisyamuddin Zulkifli, 23.

He said a search team comprising policemen and the Fire and Rescue Department personnel was dispatched to locate the missing man soon after a missing report was lodged.

"Police received a report on the incident early today and immediately deployed a team to the scene.

"We were informed that Hisyamuddin went out for fishing at Pasir Sena near Kusial with two friends Mohd Subri Che Ahmad, 39, and Mohamad Riduan Hatta, 23, about 5pm yesterday.

"However, on their way back to the jetty around 8.45pm last night, their boat suddenly capsized after accidentally hitting the anchor rope of a ferry parked near the area.

"The incident caused three of them to fall into the river. Two of them managed to swim to safety while another was missing," he added.

With the help of several villagers, he said the operation resumed this morning.

At Press time, the search team has yet to locate Hisyamuddin.
