EATERIES URGED TO ENSURE CLEANLINESS FOR VISIT IPOH YEAR

IPOH: As domestic and foreign tourist arrivals are expected to increase during Visit Ipoh Year 2023, eatery operators have been urged to maintain the highest level of cleanliness or face action by the authorities.

Ipoh Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin said enforcement would be strengthened to improve the cleanliness of eateries in the city.

"The Ipoh City Council has stepped up monitoring to ensure the cleanliness of premises where food is prepared and toilets is up to mark.

"We will step up enforcement every day. If we need to take cases to court, we will do so to ensure premises owners comply with cleanliness regulations," he told a press conference after an Ipoh City Council meeting today.

He said the council would monitor food hygiene and safety to ensure food served and sold to customers and tourists is safe to eat.

He said 429 compound notices involving fines of RM78,300 were issued to food operators in the city last year.

On Dec 31, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad launched the Visit Ipoh Year 2023 to showcase Ipoh as a must-visit holiday destination in the country.
